At long last I am back on the road with a very exciting upcoming adventure – the east coast of Australia. Over the next 3 weeks I will be travelling from Sydney to Cairns stopping along the way at some of the most popular spots in Australia. This time however I will be joined by Sophie and Soraya who have flown all the way from the U.K to share this incredible experience with me.
Before starting our east coast adventure on the Topdeck bus we had a few days to chill out and explore Sydney. Both the girls flew in early Thursday morning so feeling very very excited I went to meet them at Central Station where we were finally reunited after nearly a year! We had a chill day, big catch up and early night as they were both exhausted from the flight!
Friday morning we hopped on the ferry over to Manly to do the walk from Shelly Beach up onto North Head, something I really enjoyed the last time I was in Sydney. The weather wasn’t great but we didn’t complain and had a really good afternoon followed by a few beers at a little restaurant overlooking Manly Beach. We didn’t end up leaving until late which meant we got to get the ferry back in the dark (something I hadn’t been able to do the previous time) and take some amazing pictures of the skyline all lit up. We were all exhausted so headed back to the hostel for bed.
On Saturday, our last full day in Sydney we chose to do the walk from Coogee to Bondi. Sadly the weather was rubbish yet again but it didn’t stop us and it was still a really beautiful walk (despite nearly being blown away)! That evening we all went out for dinner followed by cocktails at the Opera Bar (one of my fave places in the world).
The next morning we were up bright and early (6am to be exact) ready to join the start of our east coast tour. The planned departure time of 7.30 didn’t exactly go to plan as our coach broke down before we had even got on which meant it was more like 10.30 before we were waving good bye to Sydney.
It was a 3 hour drive to our first stop Hunter Valley where we had a tour of one of the winery’s which was really fun – especially the tasting part!! We had a little competition at the end which involved us all standing in a big barrel crushing grapes with our feet!
From Hunter Valley it was a 4 hour drive to our final stop of the day, a surf camp in Crescent Head. We didn’t arrive until late that evening so after dinner and a few beers we headed to bed ready for an early start the next morning and our surf lesson!
Our first ever surf lesson was sooo much fun! We all expected to be awful and not even be able to stand up but actually we all managed it a fair few times! It was such a fun experience, I would definitely give it another go if I got the chance! After our lesson we chilled out in the sun for a few hours before getting back on the coach for a 6 hour drive into Byron Bay!
